The recent rain has been a huge bonus. After the consistent warm beach weather we have experienced over the last month a lot of the waterways had warmed up significantly, especially the shallower lakes with little flow input like Penstock. However, with the recent dump of rain and some minor flash floods in some areas, these warmer waters will get a nice flush of fresh cool water. This is a great time to get out an get your fix. 

All the highland lakes offer some fantastic fishing at the moment, with plenty of dry fly opportunities and sight fishing.  

Highlands in full swing. Great Lake is fishing a good as ever, with plenty of first and last light midge fishing opportunities and even some sharking in the wind lanes with the right t-shirt weather and blue skies. 

Penstock Lagoon has some magnificence fish being caught at the moment. Fish exceeding 4lb are increasingly popular as well as many people reporting being wizz banged with some unstoppable fish. 

Little Pine Lagoon has really good numbers of fish this year and plenty that are very willing to eat the dry fly. The average size of fish might be down this year but what they lack in size they make up for with feistiness and condition. This Lake has some of the fittest and strongest 1-1.5lb you will find anywhere in the state.     

Lake Crescent is still fishing great with reports of some fish seen eating duns... If its bigger fish you are after, then this is the lake for you. Fishing streamers and small wets is still the go to, although it could pay to have a dry fly rod ready to rumble if the weather is right. What a sight it would be, watching a 7-14lb brown trout sipping down mayflies. The stuff dreams are made off.
