In recent times almost every outdoor sport has had difficult getting stock - none more so than the premium brands such as Sage. That problem appears to be behind us now as most manufacturers have caught up. This problem was mostly due to a shortage of materials. 

We are sure prices will rise soon as the Australian dollar continues to drop. Most manufacturers have had several price rises, whilst SAGE (and Redington) has not risen since Nov 2022. It won't last much longer. We have attached the current range of Sage products available and the RRP for Australia.

The Tasmanian season kicked off with rain a week before - lifting rivers to just below their banks in most places. If you were 'Johnny on the spot' on the Mersey, South Esk, North Esk or Leven rivers you probably did well. Fish were snooping around looking for grubs, worms and beetles. However they soon dropped and the magic of backwater fishing went with the receding water.

Four Springs Lagoon was hugely popular and many people caught their bag quick smart. By 7am the carpark was full with over 40 boats on the water. That didn't seem to worry the anglers or the fish though. Four Springs is a great lowland water that gets plenty of pressure until the Highland lakes really kick along from October as the weather warms. This is a great water from shore or boat. Shrek, Humungous and Woolly Buggers are all good. 

Curries River Dam is also a great performing lowland water that has improved as stocking has been improved. A boat is useful here, but it is electric motors only. Shore fishing is also very good and flies the same as Four Springs are good.

Blackmans was another water that fished well over opening weekend, as did Penstock and Little Pine for those brave enough to snub their nose at the cold. For many it is a tradition to open the season in the highlands, but it is only for the hardy - or those that have a shack to return to.

Woods, Arthurs, Leake and Toom lake did not fish as well as expected, but hopefully they will ramp up as the weather warms. Lake Leake is low as there has been some dam work going on and should fish well if it stays low. This is contrary to general thoughts, but it seems to always be best when low.

The few that braved the big fish lake - Crescent said it was slow, but there are monsters for those that want a trophy fish over 10 pounds. It is said by many it is a lake of a thousand casts - and persistence is the way to get a result. We have some specific Lake Crescent flies that will give you a good chance.

Nineteen Lagoons are for the Hardy and with the boom gate closed you are in for a bit of a walk. Double, Second and First lagoons will be worth the walk along with Howes, Chipman and Carters. Keep out of the water if you can and search with Fur flies in olive, natural and black. Ensure you are well dressed, take and epirb and let people know your intentions. It is a harsh and changeable place that has weather that can close in quickly.          

We believe these are the best gloves on the planet. Even when wet they still retain warmth. We don't know how they do that, but ask anyone that has a pair. Possum Fur and Merino Wool retain warmth next to the skin. The Possum Fur is a hollow core fibre which doesn't freeze in sub zero temperatures. Polyproplylene to provide wickability to draw the moisture to the exterior of the glove, as well as providing a hard wearing outer surface. Elastane to give the glove stretch and a firm fit to the hand. Combined these materials produce a glove suitable for tougher outdoor environments and activities while retaining dexterity.
