Introducing the new Hardy ULTRALITES - $1295
Today the range of brands is broad and most are very good quality. Hardy, was in the wilderness for a while, but it always had a range of great products, and now it is back where it belongs and leading the way. It manufactures some products in England, but also has other manufacturing plants.
Hardy has a broad range rods and beautiful reels. Here is a little more about the newest range of Ultralites and their development.
The most recent World Championship were held in Tasmania in 2019 and due to Covid have not been held since. They are due later this year. The individual winner in 2019 was Howard Croston – Team England Captain and Brand Manager for Hardy.
The rods he was using were rods being developed for the world market and they have recently become available. These are the new Ultralite and Ultralite LL range of rods.
Whilst fishing the World Championship in Tasmania Howard was using both the Ultralite 10’ #6 and #7 weights for lake fishing with dry and sinking lines and Ultralite LL on the rivers. Howard suggests for Tas the 10’8” models either the 0-2 or the 3# for anyone who likes to euro nymph and the 9.2ft 4# as a great dry fly rod.
The Ultralite ranges from 3wt to 7wt and rod lengths 8’ to 10’.

These LL rods are technique specific rods designed, developed, and tested by the world’s leading experts of modern light line methods to represent the most refined and usable actions on the market for these demanding styles of fishing.

Who is Howard Croston?
Howard is Hardy Brand Business Manager and Team England fly fishing Captain.
A fly angler since he was 9 years old, Howard has been fortunate enough to fish some of the finest destinations in the world for dozens of species in both salt and fresh water.
A former tournament caster, Howard has represented England at World level and has won in excess of 90 professional casting events. Howard later took up Competitive Fishing, representing England 15 times to date; he was part of World Championship winning Team England in 2009. Howard's individual highlight until recently was placing fourth in the 2012 World
Championships, but this changed in 2019 to Winning the World Championship in Tasmania. He is still the current World Champion.
Howard is also APGAI qualified, and has been recognised by the Rodsmith's Guild, who awarded him the title Master Designer.
