Here is some information and details on the essential Flyfisher hosted trip to Christmas Island that Tim Johnson will be hosting for us in July next year. We are putting together a group of guys from Tasmania, with others from Melbourne and Sydney also likely to join us for the week!

Fly Odyssey Australia will be managing all aspects of the booking process including providing us all with comprehensive pre-trip information and guidance along the way.

Christmas Island in Kiribati continues to be one of the best value, international saltwater Flyfishing destinations in the world. All the lodging and guiding is from our base at The Villages, who we feel have the best guiding program on the Island. It’s perfect for Beginner to Advanced fly-fishermen with a huge range of species and flats to target. The fishing this season was excellent, with very good numbers of Bonefish to 10lb’s, plenty of Triggerfish, and GT’s to 50lb landed on the flats during our hosted weeks, and a host of other species also landed. If you are new to Saltwater Flyfishing or haven’t done a great deal of flats fishing then Christmas Island is very hard to beat.

The accommodation is basic but comfortable, situated on the beach where the boats collect you daily. Each day you will have your own guide, which is the only lodge to offer this service (normally its one guide to two anglers). This means that you will get more shots at fish and land more throughout the week. On a typical day, you will capture in excess of a dozen bonefish and have shots at many more, including Triggerfish, Bluefin and Giant Trevally.

Inclusions: 7 night’s accommodation in air-conditioned bungalows at The Villages Christmas Island (twin share), 6 and a half days guided fly fishing (1 angler per guide), full board, all ground and boat transfers on Christmas Island. Includes comprehensive pre-trip guide and $100 retail voucher to the essential Flyfisher to assist with your preparation, experienced host to ensure a great Fly Fishing experience on CXI, back-up rods, and fly-tying gear on hand. 

Exclusions: International flights, transit accommodation and meals in Fiji, alcoholic beverages, gratuities (Guides $230, Staff $50 for the week), fishing licence ($AU55).

Flights: We are reviewing the flight schedule in the month ahead. Indicative return costs ex Melbourne is approximately $1,450 - $1,650. Transit accommodation in Fiji will be organised to suit the group once the flights have been booked and details confirmed.

Bookings: A 50% deposit ($1,675) is required to secure your position on the trip. The balance will be due 90 days prior to the trip date. Fly Odyssey will forward an invoice with deposit details on confirmation of your intention to join us.
