Hi

Outstanding saltwater outfit - cold or tropical
Image

Perfect for Australian saltwater species such as Australian salmon, barramundi etc.

An outstanding value for money outfit. Strong and powerful, but at a super budget price. Four piece rod means it will pack in your luggage or stored away in your boat or pack as a spare. Even if you love your premium rods, this is an outstanding rod. It even has a fighting butt. It is made in Asia of course, but so are many top quality rod these days.

We gave this rod hell - and it didn't let us down.

Comes with 12 months $30 replacement part warranty. Break any part of the rod in any way and we will replace it for $30 bucks.

Matched with the amazing Redington Behemoth reel this is a bargain-priced saltwater combo. We firmly believe the reel is just as, if not more, important than the rod it is attached to - especially when you have a speeding pelagic attached. It is 'reel drag' that will stop a fish, not the rod. And if you care to look you will find the Redington Behemoth is up there with the best in the 'drag' department.

This outfit/combo also includes either a coldwater or option of a tropical #8 weight floating line, with backing and hand tied flurocarbon leader. There is a limited number available. Delivery is free. Only $399.

Perfect fly rod for boat fishing

This rod was supposedly designed as a nymph rod for NZ. That is okay if there are 6-8lb trout eating nymphs, but that is normally not the case anywhere outside NZ. However we saw these rods and got the distributor to send us one. It is an excellent rod for boat or shore fishing with plenty of power, and extra length, which gives you great control. It has a sensitive tip and plenty of power in the butt section.

Normally a European style nymph rod is soft to deal with light fish and light tippets. But NZ fish are bigger and that is why this rod is stronger than a traditional nymph rod. The sensitive tip makes the rod load quickly on short casts, and protects the tippet when playing fish. The added power in lower end of the rod assists on longer casts and gives you lifting power when you need it.

It also comes with a six inch insert piece. This effectively converts the rod from a 9'6 to 10'0 giving you two rods for the price of one. And who wouldn't like an extra six inches.

  • High modulus blanks built on multi tapered mandrels
  • Quality alloy reel seat with exotic wood insert
  • Silicon carbide stripper guides
  • Titanium coated single foot guides
  • Spare tip
  • Comes complete with cordura rod tube with reel pouch and cloth bags
  • Rod is 9'6" #5 and comes with a 6" extension for extra reach.

As an outfit this comes with a matching Manic Access alloy reel with backing and a quality floating line.

Orvis Helios 3

There is a famous quote by Wyatt Earp, "Fast is fine, but accuracy is everything." What anglers discover with experience is just that. In fly fishing, accuracy is everything. Whether it's the right drift in the feeding lane, the sightline of a cruising predator, or the right level of the water column, the difference between success and failure is often measured in inches.

All modern fly rods are powerful, but accuracy is the new frontier in fly design. Making an 80-foot cast in saltwater is prospecting. Making a forty-foot cast on the nose of a laid-up tarpon is fishing. Reflect on your greatest successes and failures as an angler and the answer is clear. Accuracy breeds success.

The H3 brings us a fundamental shift from flex profiles to a new frontier in accuracy and purpose-driven design. Helios 3F and 3D each offer uncompromising purpose. 3F is accuracy with finesse, a dry fly angler's dream. 3D is accuracy with power at distance for pinpoint delivery of larger flies. The difference is taper and stiffness, but the design foundation of accuracy remains constant. To play the game at its highest level there can be no compromise and for every angler the H3 is the pinnacle of purpose, designed to master the moment and meet the demands of accuracy on a spring creek with a 3F or a tarpon flat with a 3D. Choose the game, then choose the weapon.

Some people like to - or choose to use small rods. It may be necessary if you want to fish under trees, in closed in areas - or just use them because they are fun. Lightweight rods are fun.
Essential Flyfisher has rods from .5 weight to 16 weight, but many are the little twiggy ones. No matter whether you want slow, silky smooth fibreglass - or something a little faster in graphite - Essential Flyfisher has it.
You can check out a few here - or call into the shop if you are Tasmanian and cast them.
