Douglas Rods Arrive in Australia

Essential Flyfisher are the only shop in Australia to stock Douglas Outdoor Rods. Douglas have not been around very long and have turned the flyrod market on its ear. The #6 Douglas Sky won best #6 and the #6 DXF best mid-priced rod.
Read the review on Douglas Sky here https://goo.gl/ndMXZP
The #6 Skys have all been presold, but we have more ordered. We have #5 9' Skys in stock, plus #6 9' DXFs and DHFs in #6 10', #6 9', #5 9' and #4 7'6" in stock. Mike and Peter Hayes cast these rods and were very impressed. Mike has also fished the #5 Sky with a #5 Rio Gold line and said it was one of the smoothest and delightful #5s he has ever used.
Come and cast one.

Simms products are best
This is such a simple statement to make. But we believe there are a number of reasons to choose the World leader in waders and fishing products. Simms are worn by almost every guide worldwide and they can be very punishing on their gear. They rockhop, slide down banks and use their waders to protect themselves from the cold and rigors of the harsh environment in which they work. If you see any flyfishing film chances are most people will be in Simms gear.
Simms have the biggest size and fitting range and if you are a really odd shape Simms will custom make them for you.
Essential stocks all size waders and all sizes of boots. We have Freestone, G3 and G4 waders. Headwater, Rivetek II Boa and G3.
We also stock Challenger tackle bag, Headwaters large gear bag, Dry Creek hip pack, G4 and other sling packs, Back packs, Shirts, Tees, Caps, Reel bags and other items from the Simms range. We call Simms the Prada of fishing.

Fancy Pants leggings and ladies gear
Image
You can wear these in private or as fish attractants.Designed to also be worn under waders. Men, please don't even consider these, they are for ladies. They are UPF50+ rated and are useful as sun protection. Sizes range from medium to extra large and there are a few styles. Jules has sourced these from an international supplier and they have 'gone off' in popularity with the ladies.
We also have a range of ladies gear from Simms. That includes Simms ladies wader, wading boots, shoes, jackets, shirts, tops and other.
Jules has worked in the clothing and fashion area for her whole life so unlike most tackle stores she understands fit and style. We even have a fitting room so you can 'frock up' in private and see what suits.
Jo and Steve Starling recently dropped in and Jo left well kitted out. Starlo played it safe and just bought flies.

Like the special things in life?

Whilst we don't suggest you take up smoking, Sage make a very cool Humidor that we have in store. It has a gasket seal and cedar lined.
There are also plenty of other ideas that you will love as well, such as the Australian designed Memo Bottle. It comes in several sizes. They are less bulky than conventional round flasks and the A6 will slip into your wader or vest pocket.
Or how about Australia's Best Trout Flies Revisited. This is an outstanding book and a 'must' for every flyfisher. We also have a few of the hard to get first edition.

Echo rods from Tim Rajeff
Image
The most well known name in fly casting in the world is Rajeff. Tim has been World Champion, but his brother Steve has won so many Championships people have stopped counting.
Tim spent many years working with and designing rods for Loomis, bumped his head one day and decided to start his own company - Echo Sports and Echo rods were born. We have a range of rods in store from complete outfits including rod case, rod, reel, line, leader and flies in #4, #5 and #6 for under $300. We also stock the amazing Beach Boost rods, Ion XL, Dry, Spey and Phantom II (nymph specialist) rods. Come and have a cast.

A 10' fly rod is perfect for boat fishing
Most boating fly fishers have a 10' #6 in their arsenal. They give you great line control, can hold a lot of line in the air and can dispatch a heavy sinking line into the next postcode. The quality of rods have never been better and if you do fish from a boat you should have one or of these rigged with different lines and ready at all times. Of course you can use a beautiful and light 9' #5 and that will work for dry fly, but heaving big flies and sinking lines is the domain of the 10' #6.
Three outstanding rods we have in store are the amazing Sage X - regarded by many as the 'King' $1330. Then, for the budget conscious we have two new players - the Echo ION XL $380 and Douglas DHF for $345. These are outstanding rods, but in the lower price range. Why the difference? Sage is made in USA, has the best quality control and uses the best components, best graphite, finest cork and absolute premium fittings. It is the lightest and if you break it in 10 years time Sage will repair it. The Douglas and Echo are made in Asia and offer great value and will serve you well for many years. They all come in tubes and all have warranty and are all available to cast with several different lines. 'If you can afford the best - have the best'.

FREE fly line cleaning offer
You can cast further and catch more fish if your line is clean. Simply bring your fly reel in with line on it and we will give it a FREE refurbish. It is amazing how much further you will be able to cast. We have a secret recipe of fly line cleaner that will give new life to your line and make you look like a hero in front of your friends.
If we are busy you might have to wait half an hour, but otherwise we will do it immediately.

The latest hatch board - where to go
Image
We have just had some guides and other keen flyfishers in updating our hatch board. We update it often and if we are closed you should be able to read it through the window.
Not only do we tell you where to fish, but give you and idea of the best flies as well.
We have a huge variety of flies from local suppliers to internationally sourced.
