Free casting lessons + new Sage X, Hanak, Redington and fiery brown seals fur.

Hi

Jules and I (Mike) have just finished our first ten weeks at Essential Flyfisher. We have renovated, moved and restocked on a huge scale - and had just three days off in that time.
We are still working out what to do to get back online and will address that shortly.
The new Sage X has had rave reviews and I have fished with both the 9' and 10' #5 (on my three days off). I must confess I am biased, but they are beautiful rods. Our first shipment sold out, but we will have more this week.

Let us know if you ever have any questions.

Come and try the latest fly rods

We are running a free day where you can come and try the latest from Sage, Redington, Scott and others. There will be Sage X and Redington Hydrogen lightweight switch rods plus many more. There will be different lines to try on each rod as well.
You can cast them or just watch if you want.
Spaces are limited to 30 people and you must RSVP and we will then send directions (near Longford). If you miss out don't worry as we will have another day in a month or so.
FREE casting lessons with every rod

We  want you to be the best caster you can. My good friend Jim Allen says 'fish do not eat flies with their tails'. If you can't get the fly in front of the fish quickly you are really on hiding to nothing. You might think you are okay, but great casters get more chances.
So if you buy any rod from us, regardless of price, you will be offered a FREE lesson (in Tasmania) with Peter Hayes or one of his Internationally qualified casting instructors. You WILL be a better caster - and that give you more chances to catch a fish - or beat your mate to it.
If you bought a rod from us in the last two months and have not received an email on the FREE casting day please contact us at the shop or by email.

Hanak - for the competitive angler
Hank is a name you may not know, but it is well known in the competition fly fishing scene. For rivers there is no better rod. Australian representative, Christopher Bassano rates the 10' #3 as one of his all time favourites. And check out the gold and black Hanak Superlight reel. It weighs in at a feather weight 68 grams. At the bottom is a the Hanak cassette reel that is very well priced and has three cassettes included.
Seals fur - we love Fiery Brown
Image
I don't know when or who first used seals fur to tie flies, but it is surely one of the most popular materials of all time. From fat beetles to skinny nymphs, Bobs Bits or the fabulous Firey Brown Beetle it is amazing.
We have people looking through individual packets looking for the 'right' colour and then proclaiming 'this is nothing like it'. So we got undyed seals fur, Veniards fiery brown dye and dyed it ourselves (well Jules actually dyed it).
Veniards is the 'only' dye many will use, so rest assured it is the correct shade.
Natural seals fur is becoming harder to obtain and it is now raked off the ice by a man with a rake. I kid you not. This is much better than how it was collected in the past.

If you have any large quantities of seals fur you want to trade or sell, please contact us.

Other fly tying materials
We probably have the biggest range of fly tying materials in Australia. We don't have everything, but we have a lot and are getting more every week.
So whatever you want give us a call.
